As Head of Department and coach, I closely guide and support the graduation process of Candice Binjacar, Ellemijn Geerkens, Sarah Klijsen, and Juwan Moon, from the early conceptual phase through to the final exhibition. My role combines individual coaching with collective guidance, always in dialogue with the wider teaching team.
Throughout the year, I support the students in sharpening their artistic positions, articulating their concepts, and making conscious choices in form, material, and presentation. This involves regular one-on-one conversations, group feedback moments, and critical reflections on their processes, as well as helping them navigate moments of doubt, resistance, or overload that often accompany an intensive graduation trajectory.
Together with the team, I help structure their paths toward the exhibition: aligning artistic intentions with practical planning, installation strategies, and spatial decisions. I act as a connector between the students and the department, ensuring that technical, conceptual, and logistical support is in place, while encouraging each graduate to maintain ownership over their work and voice.
The goal of my coaching is not to direct outcomes, but to create the conditions in which each student can fully develop their practice, gain confidence in their decisions, and present their work in a clear, thoughtful, and autonomous way within the final exhibition context.
