“The way you once left me”

Instalation 2011

wood circa 250x250 cm

It is a part of a roof that is torn from its domestic context. The title seems derived from a love song but

shows us a fragment of what was once a house.

The fragment that Vansteenkiste is proposing to us seems like a faded memory, fragmented,

refering to a whole but completely displaced.

We can only guess how the fragment came here but it raises numerous associations.

The title and the isolation of the fragment is giving us a melancholic tune that is only enhanced by are own associaties.

Een persistent question remains: is Vansteenkiste illuminate the house as a paradise or is it rather a fragmented Utopia?
